FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern University softball team (4-5) will play in a doubleheader at home this Monday versus the Kentucky State University Thorobreds, facing them for the first time in program history.

The games were added after inclement weather forced the Sharks to cancel three doubleheaders in Georgia this past weekend.

The Sharks enter Monday's contest after a successful 3-2 run at the Eckerd College Tournament, including a 5-3 win over No. 5 Armstrong Atlantic and holding No. 6 Valdosta State to only five hits the entire game. The three-game regional winning streak for NSU makes the Sharks 3-3 in regional play.

The weekend also marked a lot of season firsts on both sides of the field. Offensively, Melanie Spicola (Jr., Umatilla, Fla.) notched her first RBI of the season, and in the circle, Rebecca Thornton (Fr., Lodi, California) pitched for all seven innings in the 2-1 win against West Florida last Friday, while Erika Garcia (Sr., Pembroke, Pines) only allowed five hits in the Sharks' last game versus Valdosta State.

The Thorobreds fell to Alcorn State University 5-4 in their only game of the season prior to Sunday's doubleheader versus Barry. This will be the first time the Thorobreds and Sharks have competed ever against each other.
